What Are The General Safety Precautions Related To Pesticidal Use?

Using pesticides at home on your own can be dangerous at times. Hence you must take certain general precautions when doing pest control on your own. Many websites such as Greenpestservices.net can give you a lot of information regarding the use of pesticides and its associated instructions.

Following are safety instructions to be followed at home when doing pest control:

  • Never Stock Pesticides

Pesticides are one of those toxic things that should never be stocked. Firstly, pests keep changing seasonally and secondly, every pest needs a different pesticide to prove pesticidal effectiveness. If you have kids or senior citizens at home, stocking can prove unknowingly dangerous. Never shift containers as chances are the kid or seniors might consume it innocently.

  • Avoid Mixing Pesticides

Avoid experimenting with pesticides due to their strong chemical components. Mixing pesticides is a big no as few chemicals can dangerously react with each other. This sudden unexpected reaction can prove fatal at times. The smell of the reaction can be intolerable and can cause breathlessness and other allergy symptoms. There can also come certain unexpected risks with such mixtures.

  • Follow All Safety Instructions

With every pesticide come safety instructions. Do not be over confident about any instruction. These instructions are meant to keep your and your loved ones’ life safe. Hence always read the safety guidelines carefully on the label before using any pesticide. Do not overuse any pesticide as it may promote certain health complications. Never use more than the quoted quantity as it may cause adverse effects.

  • Avoid Baits or Traps

You may be done with the presence of pests at your property, but killing is not always the solution. Few people go for setting traps or placing baits (poisonous cakes) for stubborn pests. You need to avoid this if you have kids or pets at home. There are many cases in which pets have eaten the poisonous cakes or kids have consumed it. Many kids’ death reports are filed due to baits. Hence families with kids or pets should never go for baits or traps.

  • Wear The Protection Gear

The bottle of pesticide must have clearly given instructions to you about what kind of protection gear should be used while using it. Most of the pesticides will ask you to wear hand gloves and face mask, both. A face mask is used to prevent any chemical from going inside your mouth or nose. It blocks toxic inhalation.

Similarly, hand gloves will protect you from touching the toxic chemicals directly. Do not forget to wear the protection gear as per the direction.

  • Avoid Any Kind of Consumption

When you are dealing with any pesticide, it is strictly recommended that you do not drink, smoke or eat. If you do so, you are ingesting harmful chemicals in your body. If not right away, these chemicals can gradually bring certain chronic illnesses like bronchitis, dizziness, nausea or asthma. Any activity that promotes inhalation or ingestion of toxic chemicals will lead these directly to your lungs causing harm.

  • Wash Your Hands

Hands are of primary concern as they get exposed to the pesticides directly. There is a direct skin contact when it comes to using any spray or baits as pesticides. You are required to wash your hands immediately after using any pesticide, be it herbal or chemical-based. This should be done even if you were in hand gloves.

Cooking, cleaning utensils, touching the surfaces, touching door-knobs and handles are all very common activities with which the same toxic chemical can get transferred to someone else.

To conclude, safety precautions will save everyone’s life at home!
